These brownies are the cake-like variety. \u00a0Not the chewy-gooey kind. \u00a0Some people say if you lessen a Brownie\u00a0recipe by 1 egg; you will achieve a gooey-like Brownie; also, reduce the cooking time by about 5 minutes. \u00a0Otherwise, if the dense, cake like brownie is what you are after – then make no alterations!<\/p>\n

I added a cream cheese icing to the top and these brownies were gone almost instantly it seemed. \u00a0It’s a good thing we often have guests with all this baking!<\/p>\n

Here is Grandma’s recipe card.\u00a0 Take note of her legend at the bottom.\u00a0 German shortforms are very similar, but mean entirely different things.\u00a0 I often have to do a double take when making a German recipe, as I imagine she also had to do for quite awhile when learning English!<\/p>\n

Brownies from Mix<\/h3>\n

  • 2 eggs<\/li>\n
  • 3 Tablespoons water<\/li>\n
  • 1 1\/2 teaspoon vanilla<\/li>\n
  • 1\/2 cup melted margarine<\/li>\n
  • 2 1\/2 cup Brownie Mix<\/li>\n
  • 1\/2 cup nuts (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    1. Mix all wet ingredients thoroughly.<\/li>\n
    2. Stir in the brownie mix, and blend well.\u00a0 <\/span>Add nuts, if desired.<\/li>\n
    3. Bake in a greased 8×8 pan at 350 for 35 – 40 minutes.<\/li>\n
    4. Frost with butter icing if desired.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      • 1\/3 cup powdered milk<\/li>\n
      • 1 cup sifted flour<\/li>\n
      • 1 teaspoon baking powder<\/li>\n
      • 1\/2 teaspoon salt<\/li>\n
      • 1 cup sugar<\/li>\n
      • 1\/3 cup cocoa<\/li>\n
      • 1\/2 cup nuts (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        1. Mix all wet ingredients thoroughly (Eggs, water, vanilla & margarine).<\/li>\n
        2. Stir in the dry ingredients, and blend well.\u00a0 <\/span>Add nuts, if desired.<\/li>\n
